Astronomical Uplands

Uplands runs an Astronomy Club after school for years 9 and above. Here students not only get a chance to learn about the stars, space missions and cosmology, but can also gain a GCSE in Astronomy. As well as this after school club, Space features in the main curriculum of the school. One of the ways that Uplands is promoting this is with the use of the Faulkes Robotic Telescopes. Here we take control of large 2m telescopes that are positioned high up (to reduce the effect of the atmosphere and the weather on seeing conditions) and are on the other side of the planet (so we can use them when it is day time here - night time there). Pictures obtained from these are stunning, and as students take them throughout the year we will feature them on the blog. Hopefully contributions to the blog will be made by you. Anything you do related to Astronomy, please send in (how to do this will be shown on the blog). We will also soon have a loans scheme set up where you can borrow various Astronomy equipment (telescopes, star finders etc.) The blog has links to various great websites. Happy observing!

Revive & Ablaze

These are Uplands Senior and Junior Christian Groups. They meet on Friday lunchtimes, and up to 40 students and staff attend weekly. They are groups of students who share anything from a common personal commitment to the Christian faith, to just an interest in or curiosity about it. All points of view are welcomed and respected, and the groups are totally inclusive and very informal and relaxed. Read more...
