Sport

PE and Sport are an important part of college life. The Physical Education department is committed to empowering students to be innovative and creative in order to fulfil their true potential. Curricular PE and extra-curricular sport work in tandem to educate the students about the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle, whilst providing students with opportunity to develop their skill base and knowledge and understanding in a variety of sports. The inclusion of an extensive fixture programme allows them to apply these skills and compete against other schools.

Uplands has a wide range of both indoor and outdoor facilities. These include two sports halls incorporating badminton, netball, volleyball and basketball courts, fitness suite, dance studio, multi-use games area, tennis courts, outdoor netball courts, all weather cricket pitch, rugby pitch, junior football pitches and senior football pitch. Future facility development include a sand based astroturf and a 3G football and rugby astroturf.

Physical Education lessons are taken by all students in year 7-11, with additional options to study PE and Sport at GCSE and A Level.  In years 7-11 students participate in a wide range of activities including football, netball, rugby, hockey, basketball, dance, gymnastics, outdoor and adventurous activities, badminton, tennis, volleyball, athletics, rounders, stoolball, baseball, fitness and sports leadership.

Outside of the classroom students have the opportunity to further develop their sporting ability through our extensive extra-curricular programme. The college enters local, county, regional and national competitions with our teams regularly reaching the latter stages of these competitions and on occasions winning them.
