Uplands is now a designated extended school and offers a full range of services to children, young people and their families. This includes high quality all year round childcare and nursery education for 2-12 year olds from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.
For college students there is a wide range of activities that take place during the mid day break and after school. There are also a number of clubs, and opportunities in PE, Dance, Drama, Music and Science. Parents of students interested in learning an instrument should contact the school. OAST [Opportunities After School Time] provides off-site and on-site activities on Mondays to Fridays and some Saturdays. Students are asked to pay a subscription which covers transport home within the catchment area. Our status as a Community College provides a further dimension to the activities available for students.
There are youth clubs open in the evenings for young people of all ages and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for year 10 and beyond. Today's youth club is very much about the personal and social development of the young person. To this end, trained and sympathetic staff seek to offer opportunities to enable this development to occur. Such opportunities might include responsibility for the day to day running of the programme, environmental projects, challenging attitudes, accessing information on health issues, residential experiences and much more.
The Connexions service and OASIS [Opportunities After School in School] service provide intensive support for those students who need additional help with issues that are barriers to their learning.
Also Uplands offers support for young people and families through our Family Support Worker. There is access to a trained nurse and health visitor on site.
An adult learning programme covering a wide range of subjects [recreational, vocational and academic] is organised by the new Adult College for Rural East Sussex [ACRES] throughout the year. Some are day classes at Uplands and in surrounding villages, whilst the majority are evening classes. The College has established joint Adult / Sixth Form day classes in GCE, GCSE & Applied GCEs. The prospectus for all courses will be available in July. Parents are especially welcome to join a class and involve themselves in College activities.
